UNICEFS today and tomorrow Initiative

Today and Tomorrow is a groundbreaking initiative poised to safeguard 13.5 million children, youth, women, and parents within its first three years. By addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term resilience, the program creates tangible, lasting impact and paves the way for scalable solutions to climate challenges.

The Today aspect ensures rapid aid during climate disasters, providing essential resources like clean water, medical support, and shelter. The Tomorrow aspect employs innovative financing tools, such as parametric disaster insurance, to fund faster recovery and build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future. Developed with the World Bank, this initiative uniquely bridges the gap between urgent relief and proactive resilience-building, creating a model that not only helps communities recover but equips them to withstand future shocks.

The potential return on investment for this program is extraordinary: every $1 invested in resilience saves up to $15 in future emergency response costs. This efficiency makes Today and Tomorrow one of the most impactful strategies for addressing the global climate crisis, offering both immediate and long-term benefits for vulnerable children and their communities.

This is the first project we’ve chosen to support collectively as UNICEF NextGen Global Principals, and we are deeply committed to amplifying its impact. By contributing our own resources and inviting others to join us, we aim to scale this initiative globally, addressing not just cyclones but also other growing challenges like drought, flooding, and heat waves.

We hope to learn how we can collaborate to create lasting change—not only for the children most affected by the climate crisis but for all of us who share a responsibility to build a more resilient, interconnected world.
